Markellos Chryssicos

He studied the harpsichord with M. Dalmati in Athens and continued in Paris with O. Baumont, in Salzburg with K. Gilbert and S. Rampe and in Geneva with Ch. Jaccottet.

As a harpsichordist and musical assistant he participated in various recordings for MDG, Sony, Decca, Deutsche Grammophon. As a conductor he regularly collaborates with Armonia Atenea, leading the orchestra in prestigious venues like the Markgräfliches Opernhaus Bayreuth, Händel-Festspiele Halle, Theater an der Wien, Wigmore Hall, Tchaikovsky Hall. He has appeared as a conductor with the State Symphony Orchestra of Athens, the State Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki as well as with ensembles and orchestras like: Venice Baroque Orchestra, Irish Baroque Orchestra, MusikAkademie Potsdam, Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra, Winterthur Kammerorchester, Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra.

With his ensemble Latinitas Nostra he has presented many staged works that transcend the baroque repertoire such as “An English Traveller into the Levant” with Elisabethan and Ottoman music, “… for soon I will be layed in earth…” with French Leçons des Ténèbres and rebetiko songs, Communio with Middle Eastern musicians and early Italian music, Orfeo of Monteverdi with live electronics.

He has worked as a radio producer and presenter for the Third Program of the Greek National Radio and has served as a member of the Board of Directors at the Greek National Opera.
