Kjartan Sveinsson

Kjartan Sveinsson is a composer, musician and performer. He is a founding member of Icelandic band Sigur Rós. The band have sold over 10 million records worldwide. Sveinsson plays keyboards and guitar, as well as being responsible for the band’s frequent arrangements for strings, brass, choir and orchestra. 

In 2026, Sigur Ros collaborated with Loss><Gain and Oxford University to develop Sigur Rós: ÁRA as part of the opening of the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities. ÁRA is a deep listening experience designed to transport audiences through an immersive 360 degree soundscape. Academics, including a neuroscientist were also part of the team developing the work to see whether a deep meditation experience can be reached by audiences.
