Julian Cassia

Julian Cassia is a composer, songwriter, producer and educator whose work spans recorded music, film, television, advertising and creative education.

Over more than two decades, Julian’s music has appeared in film, major network television and international advertising campaigns for global brands. As a producer and songwriter, he works with artists across genres, with a particular interest in the relationship between sound, emotion and storytelling. His own artist project, Almost An Artist, explores songwriting as a space for experimentation, vulnerability and play.

As an educator, Julian approaches songwriting, film composition and music production through the lenses of neuroscience and evolutionary biology, exploring why music affects us the way it does and how our responses to rhythm, melody, tension, repetition and emotional change connect to deeply rooted human behaviours. Our biology, fixed over hundreds of thousands of years. Rather than teaching creativity as a set of rules, his workshops encourage participants to understand and trust the intuitive processes through which humans have made, shared and responded to music for thousands of years.

Having lived and worked across Europe, North America and the Middle East, Julian brings an interdisciplinary and international perspective to both his creative practice and teaching.
