Ilias I. Vlachos

Ilias I. Vlachos, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the American College of Greece (ACG) and a psychiatrist–psychotherapist with extensive experience in clinical practice, teaching, and research. He holds a B.A. in Psychology from ACG, a degree in German Literature from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), and an M.D. and a Ph.D. (with High Distinction) from NKUA’s School of Medicine. He completed his psychiatric training at the Psychiatric Hospital of Attica, followed by further specialisation in group analysis.

From 2015 to 2022, he served as a Scientific Collaborator, Academic Fellow, and Clinical Fellow at Eginition University Hospital, working in early psychosis, crisis intervention, and emergency psychiatry while teaching medical students and psychiatric residents. At ACG, he teaches courses in psychopathology, biological psychology, psychodynamic skills, and group psychotherapy, and supervises graduate research.

From 2023 to 2026, he contributed to the Greek Ministry of Culture’s Arts on Prescription programme as a researcher with the University Research Institute of Mental Health, Neurosciences & Precision Medicine “Kostas Stefanis” (UMHRI). Beyond his academic and clinical work, he contributes to public mental health education and participates in arts and theatre initiatives.
