Hazem Header

Hazem Header is an Egyptian contemporary dancer, choreographer, and cultural producer. After earning a BA in Physical Education and studying personal training, biomechanics, and kinesiology, he worked as a personal trainer and volleyball coach before deciding to dedicate himself fully to contemporary dance in 2009. He subsequently trained at the governmental centre “Cairo Contemporary Dance Centre (CCDC)” at the Cairo Opera House.

In 2013, Hazem founded NÜT Dance Company (NDC), a Cairo-based, legally recognized dance company that produces contemporary dance performances and cultural events.

From 2018 to 2021, Hazem taught theatre and contemporary dance at the Creative Center of Cairo University. Alongside his work in Egypt, he has been invited to teach and facilitate workshops internationally, including at Pig Iron School in Philadelphia, USA; Dansehallerne in Copenhagen, Denmark; U(R)TOPIAS Academy of Choreography in Elefsina, Greece; and through the This Is Domino project in Zagreb, Croatia.

In 2017, he launched Breaking Walls Festival, Cairo’s first international festival dedicated to site-specific performance. Building on this work, he established the Breaking Walls Dance Film Festival in 2021, the first festival in Egypt and the wider region dedicated exclusively to dance films.

Hazem’s contributions to the international performing arts sector have been widely recognized. In 2021, he was selected as a Global Connector by the International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts (IETM). In 2024, he was elected to the IETM Advisory Committee for a three-year term. The same year, he became an alumnus of The Festival Academy’s New York Atelier for Young Festival Managers, an initiative of the European Festivals Association (EFA).

In 2025 and 2026, Hazem was selected as an ISPA Global Fellow, becoming one of the few arts leaders to receive the fellowship in consecutive years.

His recent solo work has been presented internationally, touring festivals and venues including IPAF in Copenhagen, Queer Zagreb Festival in Croatia, Festival d’Avignon in France, and Hvitsten Salong in Norway.
