Christina Merkouri

Archaeologist at the Ministry of Culture, she served as Head of Department at the Ephorate of Antiquities and Private Archaeological Collections from 2008 to 2010, Director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Preveza-Arta from 2011 to 2014, Director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Zakynthos from 2014 to 2018, and from the beginning of 2018 to the present Director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of West Attica.

She graduated from the University of Athens with extensive postgraduate training in Prehistory and Protohistory at the National School of Archaeology in Rome. With two decades of teaching experience at the Suor Orsola Benincasa University Institute in Naples, she has also engaged in research regarding maritime communications between the Aegean and southern Italy during the Mycenaean era.

Her professional responsibilities encompassed scientific research, conservation, and the promotion of archaeological artifacts, along with planning and executing projects for the enhancement of archaeological sites. In addition to her administrative duties, she has actively participated in workshops, conferences, and European programs focused on cultural heritage, and has contributed to the field through various publications on archaeology and archival science.
