Katerina Mavromichali

Dr. Katerina Mavromichali is an archaeologist, museologist, and cultural mediator working at the intersection of museums, interdisciplinary collaborations, public outreach, education, and therapeutic practices. She serves at the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, Directorate of Archaeological Museums, Exhibitions and Educational Programmes, and is currently seconded to the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens. She is a research team member of Art-on-Prescription Greece, alongside her mandate as General Secretary of the European Federation of Art Therapy (EFAT). She holds a PhD in Archaeology, an MA in Cultural and Creative Industries from King’s College London, and art therapy training with BAAT-CPCAB.

Her work supports sustainable development through cross-sectoral partnerships and human rights-based approaches, in national, European, and international multi-stakeholder contexts, spanning both policy and operational frameworks. At the core of her work and research lies a holistic, human-centered approach to health connecting the individual to the community through arts—recognizing culture as a vital marker of mental well-being and a catalyst for empowerment and transformation. Building on this vision, in 2018 she launched Outreach, a pioneering creative health programme connecting the cultural and clinical sectors in Thessaloniki—an initiative that continues to inform her practice today through fostering a ‘culture of care’.

Katerina champions a theory of change positioning caring heritage-based institutions and creative museum practices as drivers of wellbeing and systemic change, driving strategic planning and development for resilient and just futures, and advancing cultural diversity, co-creation, capacity building, and global knowledge exchange.
